A lovely hotel with amazing views of Isle of Skye, Rhum and Eigg, the staff where friendly and helpful. Our room was small but clean and had no issues with it, the food was lovely. Ample parking at the hotel, with the railway station very close by. Only a hours drive from Fort William, lovely walks from the hotel with Arisaig and a short drive away with its beautiful white sands and clear blue water.
Cant find anything negative to say about the hotel or the staff
It is in an excellent location, just five minutes walk or less from the Mallaig railway station, and only a few minutes further from the ferry terminal. Yes, it is uphill from the seafront, but it is such a short walk that this was not a problem, even for my arthritic knees. The room was easily and quickly heated by its convector heater, and the bathroom was surprisingly large for a small, single room, with both shower and full-sized bath. There was a proper writing table where the television stood. This room was small but fully adequate. I did not eat there, so I cannot comment upon the food.
I was only there for some 16 hours, and there was nothing that I did not like. The window was very small, so there was no view unless you peered out right next to the glass, but for a low-priced single room one should not expect more. In fact such view as I had was a west-facing sea view, and only the extremely heavy rain prevented a partial view of Skye.
very friendly & helpful staff, excellent location, good information, flexible re packed lunch, comfortable bedroom, excellent shower
confusion re numbers using restaurant one evening - said would be full and advised early meal - actually only ones eating!!
location and friedliness of staff
Hospitality is great. Atmosphere reflects the romantic coast of West Scotland. Information about "what to do in Skye and how to get there" can be better.
very nice atmospere, lovely views, and nice place
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room had character and charm, but also had a modern en-suite bathroom. The best feature was definitely the view across to Eigg and Rhum - wonderful!
A warm welcome with friendly helpful staff. The location is convenient with spectacular views across the water. A most atmospheric place with a log fire, fine local ales and a fiddler playing in the lounge bar. Highly recommended!
Wish I could have stayed longer!
We had the good Fortuna to be present when there was a jam session. The players who where present by the highland games chose this Venue for playing for fun. And it was fun. THe view from our room was stunning as we could see skye and some nearby Islands.
The only thing that was good about the West Highland was the staff who were very polite and helpful. We had to book this hotel on short notice as we could not get a ferry to Skye.
The room was very small and stuffy, barely enough room to walk around the bed. TV was tiny..The window was filthy and covered in bird poo! It was located up 2 flights of stairs, turn, up another stairs, down a corridor, turn down another corridor and way down at the end of yet another corridor. There were no fire safety or otherwise instructions in the room which felt like a fire hazard as the only exit was the convuluted way we had come. There was no folder with info re the hotel, no tissues, very cheap and akward shampoo in sachets. The shower ran out of water when I tried to take a shower in the morning, came back briefly and went again . The breakfast was very basic, No tea or coffee was brought to our table , we had to negotiate the dining room with cups of coffee in our hands. The only bread on offer was toast, no croissants or choice of breads. No fresh fruit. very basic cereals. We had dinner there there the previous night which average with very small portions. Never again!
Very friendly staff. Lively bar. Great lobby. Good view of the sea. Good location to catch the ferry over to Skye the next day.
Rooms very run down. Not a 3 star hotel. Dingy facilities. Entire hotel in desperate need of renovations. The lobby is excellent and the location is great with a wonderful view of the sea. The experience could be so much more with just a few basic renovations.
Good location. Excellent view across the loch. Really pleasant staff
Looking a bit tired in places. Intermittant wifi in the lounge area and no wifi in rooms. Poor tv reception in our room
The staff were excellent. Very accomodating, brought me bags of ice for my sprained ankle and a whole bottle of ketchup with my dinner!
Just thought it was overpriced - the rooms were a little outdated and they advertised free wifi (which was a big reason why we stayed) and it didn't work.
Nice location if taking ferry. Food in restaurant was fine.
Room we had (22) looked like it was in the poor annexe upstairs. Was sloped ceiling, not great for 6"2 man. Bed felt vey small and shower was terrible.
Hotel friendly, comfortable beds. Plenty choice for breakfast. Rooms clean staff eager to help. Views from hotel rooms brill
